Back to Ancient Egypt - Mummy: Secrets of the Tomb

Mummy: Secrets of the Tomb
Back to Ancient Egypt -  Mummy: Secrets of the Tomb

Date: 8th of August 2012
Venue: Queensland Museum - South Bank (Exclusive)
Occasion:  Mummy: Secrets of the Tomb Exhibition.

This events brought back some of my childhood memories about Egypt, The pyramids, and a dear uncle who traveled with us there.

I have always wanted to go back again to Egypt even if it was just for holidays not for learning and exploring.

and for those who haven't had the chance to visit Egypt! its a great Destination for Holidays and you don't want to miss the great food, culture, tourist locations, and history over there ..

back the Museum and Nesperennub!!

so who is he?? according to the British Museum

Who was Nesperennub?

Nesperennub lived nearly three thousand years ago in Thebes. Thebes was one of the greatest cities in ancient Egypt and was full of temples and grand palaces. Nesperennub himself worked as a priest in the greatest of these temples, Karnak. He was also a fan-bearer to the King, so was an important man.
Nesperennub's wooden coffin has his face painted on the outside. He wears a wig, and his headband and collar are made of lotus petals. The hieroglyphs down the centre are a prayer asking for 'life, prosperity and health' for Nesperennub. Inside the coffin a goddess holds her arms open to protect his body.

The Tomb of  Nesperennub is being exhibited in Queensland Museum as part of their 150 years Celebration in 2012. The Exhibition is EXCLUSIVE to Brisbane.
Rituals of the ancient past will be explored in the exhibition

The Exhibition was launched on April 19th and has been extended until the 21st of October because of the popular demand! More than 100,000 people have already discovered the secrets of the tomb. Don't miss the experience of a lifetime.

Mummy: Secrets of the Tomb features a 3D film and exhibition experience.  Tickets are for specific dates and session times; similar to cinema movie screenings.

Important Information Before you buy your Tickets:
  • Ticket times are not flexible.
  • Please arrive 20 minutes before your ticket time.
  • Late entries may not be accommodated.
  • Please be advised the 3D film component and exhibition contains some incidental nudity and skeletal remains. Adults are requested to use their discretion when accompanied by children.
  • The exhibition contains human remains. The Queensland Museum is committed to providing a respectful environment in which to display the remains.
  • Photography is not permitted inside the exhibition space.
  • The exhibition is most suitable for children over 8 years of age.
The Exhibition is great for education purposes for schools and self exploration too .. I learned many facts about mummy's, ancient Egypt, ways to learn information about how old any skeleton is, or causes of death, and other information about mummification.

The Exhibition:

His secrets were hidden for thousands of years.
Now this spectacular exhibition reveals the life and death of one of the British Museum’s most prized mummies - Nesperennub.
Drawing on the world-famous Egyptian collections of the British Museum, Mummy: Secrets of the Tomb features four human mummies and more than 100 objects, including amulets, canopic jars used for preserving the liver, lungs, stomach, and intestines of the deceased; massive sarcophagi; statues; shabtis and sections from the Book of the Dead.
The combined 3D film and exhibition experience will explore his mummification and lead you on a journey to uncover the mysterious rituals and breathtaking beauty of life and death in ancient Egypt.
Come face to face with the ancient past as the mummy of Nesperennub is virtually unwrapped using the most advanced medical scanning technology currently available.
